Quiet Objects — The Curated Lisbon × The Vintage Hotel
LISBON DESIGN WEEK 2026
From 27 May to 15 september 2026, Craft Gardens is presented at The Vintage Hotel, Lisbon, within the exhibition Quiet Objects — organised and produced by The Curated Lisbon in collaboration with The Vintage Hotel, on the occasion of Lisbon Design Week.
This presentation brings together five artists working in textile — Vanessa Barragão, Olga Ermol, Mariana Ralo, João Bruno Videira and Me — within the interior of a five-star hotel conceived as a lived environment rather than a conventional gallery.
A LIVED ENVIRONMENT. A CONTEMPORARY TEXTILE CONVERSATION.
Through diverse techniques including weaving, embroidery and sculptural fibre practices, Quiet Objects explores textile as a medium of material intelligence, tactile sensitivity and spatial presence.
The exhibition unfolds across the interior of The Vintage Hotel — a space where guests eat, rest and pass through at different hours of the day. Rather than a white cube, the works inhabit a living context, where light changes, mood shifts, and each piece is encountered as part of daily experience.
Curated by Irina Gordienko for The Curated Lisbon, Quiet Objects affirms textile's capacity to soften, frame and transform space — inviting a slower, more contemplative mode of seeing.
COLOUR AS MEMORY. SPACE AS BRIEFING.
Craft Gardens presents two site-specific works conceived entirely in dialogue with The Vintage Hotel: one chandelier and two wall panels, together forming a textile intervention rooted in the building's own palette.
The colours — forest green, bordeaux, terracotta, mustard, warm cream — were not chosen from a catalogue. They were drawn directly from the upholstery, the rugs, the warmth of the brass fixtures. Everything in these pieces already existed in the building. A different form was given to what was already there.
The chandelier — four rings of hand-tied tassels in a descending gradient from green to mustard — responds to the room's light through the day, never reading exactly the same twice. The two wall panels, each 2 metres in height, extend the colour journey horizontally across the space, creating a textile presence that moves with the eye.
Every element is handcrafted from ECONYL® regenerated yarn — fibre recovered from ocean waste and industrial offcuts, including leftover threads from Portuguese carpet production. The same fibre that covers floors is here suspended on walls and ceilings, transformed into light, colour and presence.
