TIVOLI MARINA VILAMOURA
From 30 July to 30 August 2026, Craft Gardens presents Hanging Gardens at Tivoli Marina Vilamoura — a temporary art installation by Marta Ramada Leite, integrated in the Tivoli Art Collection under the programme Make Room for Masterpieces.
Two works introduce different dimensions of the artist's practice: the visual memory of Portuguese tiles and a deep connection to the sea, materials and sustainability — both conceived in dialogue with the Algarve coast and the Atlantic Ocean.
THREAD BY THREAD. SPACE BY SPACE.
I create suspended textile sculptures that transform with light, movement and the spaces in which they are displayed. Through Craft Gardens, I reinterpret a traditional Polish craft practice — the Pajaki — combining it with handmaking, contemporary design and the use of regenerated materials.
Hanging Gardens is presented as part of the Tivoli Art Collection, under the curatorial direction of Ana Goulão — whose programme Make Room for Masterpieces brings contemporary art into the lived experience of the hotel, placing works in dialogue with guests, space and light rather than within the distance of a conventional gallery.
At Tivoli Marina Vilamoura, the work finds a natural context: a five-star resort beside the marina and the Atlantic Ocean, where the qualities of light, reflection and movement that define the coast are present throughout the day. These two pieces do not decorate this space. They respond to it.
BLOSSOM GARDÉNIA — AZULEJOS
Suspended Textile Sculpture · ECONYL® · 100 × 165 cm
In this work, I pay tribute to the Portuguese azulejo tradition — translating into textile form the repetition, colour and rhythm that define this centuries-old craft. Created in blue, white and gold, the composition evokes the sea, architecture and the passage of time.
Each tassel is individually handcrafted and integrated into a suspended structure where repetition creates volume and movement. Small heart-shaped motifs appear as my personal signature — reinforcing the work's connection to craftsmanship and Portuguese identity.
ATLANTIC TIDE — MARÉ ATLÂNTICA
Textile Panel · ECONYL® · 150 × 150 cm
In this second work, I draw inspiration from the sea to create a fluid, undulating panel composed of different ocean tones. Its form and colours establish a direct connection with Tivoli Marina Vilamoura and its location beside the marina and the Atlantic Ocean.
The piece is made using ECONYL® — a regenerated nylon yarn produced from recovered waste materials, including discarded fishing nets and industrial offcuts. Each tassel is created individually before being assembled into the final composition.
Sustainability is not a separate theme in my work. It is present from the beginning — in the choice of materials, the handmade process and the way each piece is constructed.
